A man was arrested after taking a two-year-old girl hostage in Roque 2, Barangay Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, on Tuesday, March 25.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), the suspect, armed with a bolo knife, caused chaos inside the house while holding the child hostage.
Police said the mother was caught off guard when the suspect barged into their home along with his wife.
Fearing for the child's safety, the family complied with the suspect’s demands, which included boarding a jeepney bound for Los Baños, Laguna.
Inside the vehicle were the suspect, his wife, the child's mother, and the child's grandfather, who was driving.
Authorities said the jeepney was followed by a barangay ambulance along Visayas Avenue, with operatives from the Holy Spirit Police Station in pursuit.
The chase ended at the Elliptical Road corner of Quezon Avenue, where the child was rescued, and the suspect was subdued by bystanders.
Police added that barangay officials reported the suspect attempted to switch to another vehicle during the escape.
Meanwhile, the child sustained minor scratches on her chest, while her mother suffered injuries to her jaw and chest after being punched multiple times.
The grandfather was slashed on his right arm.
The suspect also sustained injuries and remained aggressive even after being restrained.
The suspect smashed the window of a patrol vehicle while resisting arrest.
Recovered from him were a bolo and a knife.
The suspect will face multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder, grave threats, theft, disobedience and resistance to a person in authority, and alarm and scandal.
