Big plays from Erram – along with the Herculean effort from Rondae Hollis-Jefferson – lifted TNT to a series-extending 87-83 victory over Ginebra in Game 6 of the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, March 26.
Making headlines for all the wrong reasons over the first few games of the series, Erram came to his senses and provided the Tropang Giga a huge lift in the final frame, scoring 10 of his 14 points – including three straight free throws in the waning minutes.
He also had a crucial tap on a rebound play off two crucial free-throw misses from Hollis-Jefferson inside the final 10 seconds of the game.
The ball still went to the hands of the TNT import who, this time, sealed the game by finally nailing the freebies and, more importantly, dragging the series to a winner-take-all Game 7 on Friday, March 28.
Hollis-Jefferson, who, at one point, crashed hard to the ad board at the Big Dome sidelines, poured everything with his best showing in the Finals, firing 29 points to go with 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Erram, who managed to finish the contest despite three early fouls in the opening frame, added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Rey Nambatac was also crucial with 23 points while Calvin Oftana added 14 built on four triples as TNT silenced the Ginebra fans who came in droves and joined the huge 17,654 crowd inside the Big Dome, hoping for a grand coronation for their beloved Kings.
But the Tropang Giga had other plans as they built a comfortable 10-point lead, 72-62, in the final frame before fending off a last ditch rally from the Kings.
Scottie Thompson still gave Ginebra some hope even in the last 10 seconds, draining an off-balanced bank shot triple to come within two, 85-83, but Erram and Hollis-Jefferson slammed the door on the familiar Ginebra comeback.
