DOT-Cordillera Regional Director Jovita Ganongan said tourists visiting this city last year accounted for more than 1.56 million or 78 percent of the more than 1.98 million arrivals in the region.

Mountain Province was second with 151,183, Kalinga, 132,771; Benguet, 67,428; Ifugao, 48,811; Apayao, 21,611, and Abra, 2,225.

Ganongan added that tourist arrivals in the region last year recorded a 17.71 percent increase compared to the year before.

She said all provinces recorded a significant increase in foreign and domestic tourist arrivals, contributing to an infusion of about P10.7 billion into the regional economy.

The DOT said each foreign visitor spent about P7,000 daily in their destinations while a domestic tourist spent about P4,000 every day.

She said that the region is targeting the international market to help significantly increase foreign tourist arrivals in various tourist destinations to further enhance the local economy.

Last year, foreign tourists accounted for just over two percent of the total tourist arrivals. Domestic tourist arrivals were over 97 percent.
