Borongan City launches Paleng-QR PH Plus

TACLOBAN CITY - Borongan City market tenants, business owners, and local tricycle drivers can now opt for cashless transactions with just a scan of a digitally rendered QR code through the Paleng-QR PH Plus.

Borongan City is the first local government unit in Eastern Samar and the first city in Eastern Visayas to launch the Paleng-QR PH Plus program.

Paleng-QR PH Plus in Borongan is a joint project of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Borongan City government.

Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda announced that the Paleng-QR program will help local market vendors, business owners, and tricycle drivers use digital payments.

It will make transactions quicker, safer, and easier for both service providers and customers, he said.

The mayor emphasized that digital literacy and internet access are important for the success of the Paleng-QR system in the city.

He added that the program will strengthen the local economy by making digital payments available to everyone.

Agda said that Paleng-QR PH Plus will change the game by connecting traditional business with the digital world, allowing vendors, tricycle drivers, and everyday consumers to benefit from this new technology.

Victorio III Tingcang, area director of the BSP Tacloban branch, said PalengQR PH will be used to make daily payment transactions in the city safer and more efficient.

“We no longer need to bring cash because we can already pay using the QR PH. This will prevent virus transmission and protect us from receiving fake money,” he said.

He also cited the effectiveness of QR PH to those who want to save time and money by transferring payments through their mobile phones.
