Six areas recorded heat indices between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius (°C), classified as dangerous, on Wednesday, March 26, as the country transitioned from the northeast monsoon (amihan) season to the warm and dry season.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) classifies heat indices between 42°C and 51°C as within the “danger level,” which indicates a higher likelihood of heat-related issues, including cramps, exhaustion, and an increased risk of heat stroke with continued activity.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan recorded the highest heat index of 46°C on Wednesday.

Other areas that also recorded dangerous heat index include Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (44°C); Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (43°C); Legazpi City, Albay (42°C); Virac, Catanduanes (42°C); and Pili, Camarines Sur (42°C).

PAGASA officially declared the end of the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” season on Wednesday, marking the beginning of the warm and dry season across the country.
