Rainy conditions continue in parts of Mindanao; hot, humid in the rest of the country — PAGASA

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the easterlies will be the dominant weather systems in the country over the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, March 25.

PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” has weakened and no longer affects any part of the country.

Dominguez added that most of the country, except for parts of Mindanao, will experience hot and humid conditions due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, along with more frequent isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said the shift to the warm and dry season could be officially declared before the end of March or early April, as it typically follows the end of the amihan season.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

PAGASA also warned of the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in areas affected by the ITCZ.
