The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now finalizing its security plan for the expected gathering of supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte in celebration of his birthday on Friday, march 28.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the latest information they received was that a prayer rally will be held at the Rotary Plaza in New Corella, Davao del Norte by the supporters of the former chief executive.
“We expect that there will be a lot of people who will attend considering that the former president is from Davao,” said Fajardo.
But she said coordination is currently being conducted by the Police Regional Office 11 with the Public Safety and Security Office (PSO) of the Davao City local government to iron out the security operations.
Fajardo said they are still waiting for the final data of the prayer rally.
“Based on that data, we will have the figure on the number of personnel that will be deployed but as a normal procedure, we will have sufficient security coverage to ensure the safety and security of everybody,” said Fajardo.
Duterte is currently detained at the facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Netherlands after the Philippine government assisted the International Police in implementing the arrest warrant against him for the crimes against humanity case leveled against him in connection with the drug war.
