The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index in Dagupan City, Pangasinan reached 47 degrees Celsius (°C) on Tuesday, March 25, the highest for the day.

PAGASA classifies heat indices between 42°C and 51°C as within the “danger level,” which indicates a higher likelihood of heat-related issues such as cramps, exhaustion, and an increased risk of heat stroke with continued activity.

It noted that Dagupan City’s heat index may again reach 47℃ on March 26 and 46℃ on March 27.

Other areas that recorded heat index within the danger level on Tuesday include Virac, Catanduanes (45°C); Pili, Camarines Sur (45°C); Baler, Aurora (42°C); San Ildefonso, Bulacan (42°C); Legazpi City, Albay (42°C); and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (42°C).

Although the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” season has not yet ended, PAGASA said the shift to the warm and dry season could be officially declared before the end of March or early in April, as it typically follows the conclusion of the amihan season.
