Brooke Van Sickle unloaded 22 kills to finish with 24 points to lead the offensive assault anew for Angels, who needed a knockout Game 3 match to advance to the next round.

They lost Game 1, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25, but fought back and claimed Game 2, 25-19, 25-13, 28-26, to forge the series into a decider.

They did not waste that opportunity.

Armed with experience after making it to the Final Four for the fourth time in the All-Filipino Conference, Petro Gazz displayed cohesion and composure against the aggressive counterattacks of the Thunderbelles bannered by Glaudine Troncoso, Chinnie Arroyo and Jovelyn Gonzaga.

Veteran Chie Saet was also instrumental in the Angels’ triumph, maximizing their spikers by coming up with 20 of the team’s 21 excellent sets on top of five points.

“Nag-stay composed lang kami lalo na nung third set. Sabi ko kailangan naming maka-first ball para ma-execute namin nang maayos yung mga plays namin,” said Saet, who also highlighted her performance with two of the team’s five aces.

MJ Phillips also steadied the ship for Petro Gazz by pumping in 10 points, nine coming from kills, while Myla Pablo and Jonah Sabete combined for five of the team’s eight blocks to take charge of the defense.

With the win, Petro Gazz joins Akari, Choco Mucho and defending champion Creamline in the round-robin semifinals slated on Saturday, March 29.
