Caloocan power duo backs Camille Villar’s Senate bid

With the campaign season in full swing, senatorial candidate Camille Villar gained a crucial boost in Caloocan City as she secured the endorsement of veteran lawmaker Rep. Oscar Malapitan and his son Caloocan City Mayor Along Malapitan.

The endorsement was announced during a gathering of local officials and supporters at the Orient Pearl Seafood Restaurant along 10th Avenue, where the Malapitans publicly threw their support behind Villar, citing her longstanding ties with the city and commitment to public service.

“Ang pamilya Villar ay matagal na naming kasama sa paglilingkod. Kaya buo ang tiwala namin kay Camille,” said Rep. Malapitan, who is seeking reelection in Caloocan’s 1st District. “Marami silang naitulong noon, kaya panahon na para suklian natin ang kanilang suporta.”

Mayor Malapitan, who is running for a second term, echoed his father’s endorsement, calling Villar “madaling lapitan” and a public servant who listens and delivers.

The Malapitans and Villar are members of the Nacionalista Party.

They earlier barnstormed several key barangays, from Caloocan City Hall to the bustling Monumento area, rallying grassroots support and engaging directly with residents.

Villar, in turn, thanked the Malapitans and pledged to push for inclusive legislation focused on youth, women’s rights, and social welfare.

“I am humbled and grateful for the trust of the Malapitan family and the people of Caloocan. I will work hard to represent your voices in the Senate,” she said.

With over 700,000 registered voters, Caloocan is seen as a key battleground in the 2025 midterm elections. Villar’s alliance with the city’s most influential political figures is expected to give her campaign a strong foothold in the northern Metro Manila district.
