Mayor Albee Benitez led the unveiling of the one-story facility that can accommodate 32 athletes — 16 boys and 16 girls — each with individual beds and cabinets.

Amenities include a dining and cooking area, dedicated comfort rooms, an office, and a stock room.

In his message, Benitez stressed the need to provide good facilities to athletes to excel in sports.

Benitez said that he considers the athletes as heroes of the city who bring home recognition. “We are proud of you,” he added.

He urged athletes to continue their hard work as he assured the city government’s support to their sports journey.

Benitez said that it is proper to provide them with a facility to motivate them to gain more medals.

The project that cost P12.5 million is designed to provide student-athletes with a safe and comfortable space for training and academics.

Benitez said that P1 million will be allotted for the purchase of furniture for the facility.

The city started the project last year after seeing the poor condition of the athletes’ current living quarters, a shanty-type structure located at the back of the school.

Gladys Gerona, school principal, said that the dormitory is not just a place to rest, but a sanctuary that will foster focus, growth, and a sense of community.  The athletes will find the comfort and support they need to excel, both on and off the field, she added.
