Scattered rains expected across parts of Bicol, VisMin on March 23

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, March 23 said parts of the Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao may experience scattered rains due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may affect Palawan and Mindanao due to the ITCZ, a weather system in which winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge and form rain-bearing clouds.

The Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate may also experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA warned of the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains” in areas affected by the ITCZ and easterlies.

Meanwhile, PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the effects of the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” has weakened but may still bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

The rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms could also trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas vulnerable to these hazards.
