The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 19 individuals from a motorized banca that submerged off Davao City on Saturday, March 22.
The boat was traversing the vicinity waters off Davao Bay Coconut Oil Mills Inc. (DBCOM) in Panacan, Ilang, Davao City when it encountered engine trouble.
“As the vessel drifted, it was overwhelmed by strong currents and large waves, causing it to capsize and leaving the passengers stranded,” the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao said.
The incident was reported to the Coast Guard Station Davao, which then directed the Coast Guard Sub-Stations Ilang and Lasang to conduct search and rescue operations along with the fast patrol boat BRP Malamawi (FPB-2403).
The Coast Guard personnel rescued all the distressed passengers and were brought to BRP Malamawi for initial medical assistance. They were transported to Panacan Wharf where they received additional aid.
