BIR destroys P156-M smuggled cigarettes


BUTUAN CITY – The Bureau of Internal Revenue-10 this week spearheaded the destruction of smuggled cigarettes valued at P156 million in Northern Mindanao.

BIR officials said the move is part of the nationwide crackdown against tax evasion and underscores their commitment to enforcing tax laws.

Present during the event were top officials of the BIR and concerned line agencies of the government.

The contraband was confiscated from January to early March through the full support the Police Regional Office-10 led by Police Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman.

PRO 10-Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) chief Police Major Joanne G. Navarro said that police recovered smuggled cigarettes worth more than P6.8-million in Barangay Piraka, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte on Wednesday, March 19.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil awarded PRO-10 officers and personnel for their achievements in the campaign against illegal drugs during his command visit on Friday, March 21, to Camp 1st  Lt. Vicente G. Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City.

Marbil awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan to Police Lt. Col. Ramon Christian Solis Laygo and 11 other police officers and personnel for successfully conducting a buy-bust operation on Jan. 10, 2025 and confiscating more than one kilo of suspected shabu valued at P6.8 million in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.

Two suspected drug pushers were apprehended and face drug-related charges.
