Shear line, easterlies, 'amihan' to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains across the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, March 21 said cloudy skies and scattered rains will continue to affect various parts of the country due to the combined effects of the shear line, easterlies, and the northeast monsoon.

Over the next 24 hours, the shear line—a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies)—will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms to the Visayas, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Dinagat Islands.

The easterlies will also affect Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sarangani, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms.

Moreover, Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies and rains due to the amihan.

PAGASA warned of the possibility of flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the three weather systems, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, fair weather conditions are expected to prevail in the rest of the country, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to the amihan or easterlies.

The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas vulnerable to such hazards.
