Alynna Velasquez II, Hajji Alejandro's girlfriend, has confirmed that the OPM icon is recovering after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
"I think he will be able to sing again," said Alynna, girlfriend of Hajji for 27 years, during an interview with broadcaster Julius Babao on his YouTube Channel uploaded on March 20.
Alynna recalled the moments that led to Hajji's hospitalization.
"It was an ordinary day, and he had a show. He had become bloated, and he could not breathe, eat, or do anything.
"Sabi ko pa-check up. Si Hajji kasi he's the one who would not. Kaya lang wala ng choice. So when he had a CT scan, nalaman na.
"Pinabasa n'ya. It's all there. When he heard it from the doctor, he said that he needed an operation like asap.
"Stage 4 colon cancer. After the operations, nagkaroon siya ng seizure because he got infected. He was rushed to the ICU and it took a while kasi hindi alam kung saan nanggagaling yung infection. Somewhere else. Finally nalaman na nila. After a week tinanggal na yung respirator nila. Then he began to talk," she said.
Alynna said her prayers were answered because Hajji was confined to a regular facility. After that, the singer finally went home.
"Then I prayed sabi ko, Lord sana sa. birthday ko nasa regular room na siya. And my prayer was answered. Now, he's undergoing therapy. Today, he's home," she said.
Alynna added: "Ang ganda na ng memory niya. Kuwento siya ng kwento ng mga things we don't remember anymore. Ang ganda ng boses niya. I want to thank all his doctors for taking care of his vocal cords noong na intubate siya. Madalas yung mga na-intubate yung mga vocal chords nila, nasisira na yun eh. But they really took care of him sa Medical City.
"I spoke to God. Sabi ko, Lord, please save Hajji now. Please, I want to take him home, Lord. Tapos bumubuti s'ya," the girlfriend said.
Alynna stated that Hajji's family blamed her for uploading the viral video of the singer while he was hospitalized.
"The family wanted it private, but I had to tell his friends when he became critical. Pero good intention na naman yung ginawa ng best friend niya to tell the San Beda group. I was blamed.
"I took the video, and it went viral. Tulog lang si Hajji noon hindi sya critical nun. He was resting. Because of your prayers, okay na s'ya. I think he will be able to sing again," Alynna added.
In February, friends of Hajji Alejandro took to social media to request prayers after he was rushed to the hospital and intubated.
Dubbed "Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala" in the 70s, Hajji broke the music scene with memorable hits such as "Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika," "Nakapagtataka," "Panakip-Butas," Tag-Ulan Sa Tag-Araw" and more.
