TRECE MARTiRES, Cavite--Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said the government must make an "example" out of fake news peddlers in order to show them that authorities "mean business".

Binay had this to say Friday, March 21 in a press conference ahead of the administration-backed ticket's campaign rally here at the capitol grounds.

The lady mayor highlighted the frustrations surrounding the difficulty of catching fake news peddlers and online fraudsters.

Binay stressed the importance of setting an example through effective enforcement.

“Ang sa akin, enforcement. Makahuli tayo, maka-sample tayo para mapakita sa lahat ng tao na 'we mean business.’ Kailangan tayong umayos. Yun yung kailangan nating ipakita," she said.

(For me, enforcement is key. We should make arrests, let's show an example so that we can show the people that we mean business. We should do things properly. That's what we need to show.)

Binay urged the government to equip law enforcers with the necessary tools and training to track down those responsible for spreading false information.

She also stressed the need to go after online scammers who steal people's money.

She attributed the boldness of such criminals to the fact that the authorities have failed to apprehend online money scammers who victimize unsuspecting netizens.
