Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has endorsed former senator Kiko Pangilinan's senatorial bid in the 2025 mid-term elections.
Gatchalian expressed his support for Pangilinan, stressing the need for more lawyers in the senate.
“Ang trabaho po namin ay gumagawa ng batas, pero pakonti nang pakonti ang mga abogado sa loob ng Senado. Si Senator Kiko, bilang isang abogado, marami siyang maitutulong sa ating bansa (Our job is to create laws, but lawyers in the senate are decreasing. Senator Kiko, as a lawyer, will be able to bring help to the country)," Gatchalian said.
Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian also expressed his support for Pangilinan's candidacy.
The Gatchalian brothers recognized Pangilinan for championing the Sagip Saka Act in the Senate as its principal author, saying the Valenzuela local government utilizes the law to purchase rice from Isabela farmers for its social programs, particularly for its products for its annual gift-giving initiative for senior citizens.
“Dahil sa batas niya, nakaka-discount tayo at higit sa lahat, hindi natin tinitipid ang rice subsidy natin. Ang batas ni Senator Kiko ay napakalaking bagay sa mga lokal na pamahalaan gaya ng Valenzuela (Because of the law, we were able to get a discount, and most importantly, we are not skimping on our rice subsidy. Senator Kiko's law is a huge help to local governments like Valenzuela," the mayor said.
Senator Gatchalian also said Pangilinan’s law helps increase the income of farmers and fisherfolk and strengthen food security in the country.
“Nagbibigay ito ng dagdag na kita sa ating mga magsasaka at mangingisda. Dahil sila’y kumikita, magiging maginhawa at masaya ang kanilang buhay, dadami ang kanilang ani, at magkakaroon tayo ng food security (This provides additional income to our farmers and fishermen. Because they earn, their lives will be comfortable and happy, their harvests will increase, and we will achieve food security)," he said.
Pangilinan made a visit in Valenzuela City on Friday, March 21.
After the program, Mayor Gatchalian showed Pangilinan a scale model of the Metro Manila Subway Depot and North-South Commuter Railway Depot, highlighting the city’s role in advancing major infrastructure projects.
