Cop shoots himself dead after killing woman during argument

BACOLOD CITY – A policeman killed himself after fatally shooting a woman in Purok Camia, Barangay Poblacion, Valladolid, Negros Occidental on Thursday night, March 20.

Police withheld the names of the 33-year-old woman, a resident of Barangay Sagua Banua, Valladolid, and the 40-year-old police officer, with a rank of master sergeant and a resident of Barangay Doldol, Valladolid.

Police Capt. Bonifacio Galvez Jr., deputy chief of the Valladolid Municipal Police Station, said that the victim and the suspect had a heated argument.

The suspect shot the victim multiple times with his service firearm. He then shot himself in the head.

The victim and the suspect were declared dead in a hospital

Galvez said the incident was witnessed by the victim’s 10-year-old son.

Recovered from the scene were a 9mm caliber pistol with a magazine and nine bullets, three fired cartridge cases, and three slugs.

Galvez said the suspect was assigned to the Iloilo City Police Office.

Police did not disclose the relationship of the victim and the suspect but Galvez said the woman was a widow.

Lawmen are conducting follow-up investigation.
