Candon City Mayor Eric D. Singson said activities in the week-long event that ends March 28 started with the culmination of the Women’s Month celebration at the Candon City Arena.
“The recognition of the role of women in the city's development is driven by our commitment to empower and uplift every resident in the city in its bid to transform the city into a technologically modern urban area known as a smart city," said Singson.
He said that the event feted women who helped transformed and developed the city touted as the “Tobacco Capital of the Philippines.”
Among the honorees was Ilocos Sur second district Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan.
Several events have been scheduled to celebrate the event.
“We will showcase the biggest globally known Candon Calamay (rice cake) at the Candon South Central Oval on March 26 to bring more attraction to our visitors and tourists this year’s festival,” Singson said.
Miss Tobacco Philippines
Fifteen gorgeous young ladies from the eight branch offices of the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) will compete in the search for Miss Tobacco Philippines 2025.
NTA Administrator and CEO Belinda S. Sanchez said the Candon City government with the NTA launched the national beauty contest as a tribute to the hard work and resiliency of the country’s tobacco farmers.
Sanchez said that the pageant, now in its third year, is not just about beauty but also about advocating the empowerment of young women from tobacco-producing areas in line with the ongoing celebration of National Women’s Month.
