The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and its attached agencies on Thursday, March 20, welcomed Henry Rhoel R. Aguda as the new secretary, vowing full support for his leadership in pushing digitalization, connectivity, and cybersecurity as national priorities.

In a statement, DICT highlighted Aguda’s contributions as the Digital Infrastructure Sector Lead of the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC), where he provided “visionary strategies and innovative initiatives” to President Marcos.

“With an impressive track record in the banking industry and deep expertise in technology and digital transformation, Secretary Aguda previously served as the President and CEO of UnionDigital Bank and held senior leadership roles at UnionBank as Chief Technology and Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer,” DICT spokesperson and Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs Renato A. Paraiso said.

The agency pledged its commitment to supporting Aguda in realizing the government’s vision of strengthening security, promoting inclusivity, and driving national progress.

“We call on our partners, stakeholders, and the public to join us in this transition. With Secretary Aguda’s expertise and vision, we are poised to bring our shared aspiration of a Bayang Digital ang Bagong Pilipinas closer to reality,” Paraiso said.

On Thursday night, President Marcos officially appointed Aguda as the new DICT chief, following the resignation of Secretary Ivan John E. Uy.

The Palace had earlier confirmed Uy’s resignation on March 6, through Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro.
