The Department of Education (DepEd) led by Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera, the provincial government of Antique spearheaded by Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, and the municipality of San Jose de Buenavista with Mayor Delfin Justin R. Encarnacion graced the opening ceremony at Binirayan Sports Complex.

Also present during the opening were Govenors Joen Miraflores of Aklan, Frenedil Castro of Capiz, and Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental.

DepEd-6 Assistant Regional Director Miguel Mac Aposin welcomed the delegates on behalf of DepEd-6 Regional Director Ramir Uytico.

Around 6,000 student-athletes and coaches from the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental are competing.

Delegates of Negros Occidental are still part of WVRAA and this year’s Palarong Pambansa despite the creation of Negros Island Region (NIR) when Republic Act No. 12000 was signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last year.

The NIR is composed of the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.
