Right after the success of the HONOR X9c 5G, HONOR is running again to make a splash with the HONOR X9c Smart 5G. The X9c Smart 5G is not the same phone as the base X9c.
The circular camera bump on the rear of the X9c has a more ridged or fluted design, which kind of resembles a Rolex DateJust. HONOR has just recently given one away as a pre-order promo. The X9c Smart’s circular bump does not have this pattern and is smoother.
The X9c Smart also has a more squarish frame, lacking curves, which personally, I think is perfectly fine. When held, the device remains solid and hefty.
Of course, one important thing we should consider is durability. The X9c Smart may not be as durable as the base X9c. But I can speculate that much of the base model's durability design has been implemented in the Smart version. I have drop tested this device multiple times in quick succession. In the MB TechNews TikTok page, we’ve dropped the phone multiple times as well. I’ve continued to drop the phone several times more later that day, just to push it. I even handed the phone to my kid and allowed her to drop it a couple of times more. I have to admit, watching a phone withstand multiple drops without it shattering has been cathartic.
The HONOR X9c Smart 5G continues to work perfectly after all the drops it experienced. This wasn’t a formal stress test. I could've continued until the phone actually breaks. But I decided not to thinking it won't be a realistic scenario. Besides, I don't think HONOR is trying to make a smartphone that can withstand the test of time. What we’re being offered here is a phone, should you drop it a couple of times, will remain intact and operational, without forcing you to scramble for an upgrade ASAP. Also, ask yourself, how many times have you dropped your phone? Three to four times in two years? That is with you being careful. At least with the durability of an HONOR X9c and the X9c Smart, you won’t have to second guess if it’s A-OK when it falls. But if you’re clumsy, maybe you should consider upgrading to an HONOR X9c Smart.
In terms of performance, well, the HONOR X9c Smart 5G is a mid-range phone of 2025. And mid-range phones of 2025 are good. In fact, mid-range phones in the last couple of years have all been good. It would be a headline if a new phone came out that wasn’t at least a decent performer. The X9c Smart 5G is powered by a Dimensity 7025 Ultra and 5800mAh battery. You also get a 108MP camera and if you’ve been keeping a lookout, you’d know HONOR has a history of being a nice snapper.
There is much to like in the HONOR X9c Smart 5G. If you’re looking for a new phone, consider this durable option.
