Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said it was important for the country's youth to be involved in the country's affairs as she welcomed suggestions to pursue reforms in the media literacy program of the basic education curriculum.

Castro said this as Filipinos online debate about the status of the country's education system after a 20-year-old noontime show contestant said she was not "very knowledgeable" about the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after she was asked what was her message to the poll body.
In a press briefing on Monday, March 3, Castro recognized that not everybody finds the events in the country concerning.
"Minsan ang mga nangyayari sa pali-paligid hindi po minsan concerned ang iba. May mga ordinaryong tao na hindi concerning yung nangyayari sa paligid natin (Sometimes, some people are not concerned with what's happening in their surroundings)," she said.
"Mas preferred nila na manoond ng katatawanan (They prefer watching comedy); that will make them happy, that will make them smile," she added.
Asked if the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), in charge of the government's media arm, will pursue reforms in the basic education curriculum's media literacy program, Castro said she would bring it up to the right people.
"Mas magandang ano po 'yan na suhestyon. Makakarating po 'yan (That's a better suggestion. I will raise that)," she said.
Castro said this is because the country's youth should be informed and involved in the country.
"Maganda po talaga, lalo sa mga kabataan natin, na ma-involve sa mga nangyayari sa atin sa bansa (It's better especially for the youth to be involved in the country's affairs)," she said.
"Mas maganda eh makasama rin po ito sa pag-aaral ng mga estudyante para po maging aware din po sila... sa nangyayari sa atin sa current events (It's better if we include it in our students' lessons so they will be aware of the current events)," she added.
