ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Bureau of Fire Protection-9 kicked off Fire Prevention Month in the Zamboanga Peninsula on Sunday, March 2, with a series of activities in a mall here.

OFFICERS salute during the Philippine national anthem as Fire Prevention Month in the Zamboanga Peninsula kicked off of March 2 in Zamboanga City.
This year’s theme is “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nagiisa” (You are not alone in fire prevention).
The event was highlighted by a display of fire truck floats from the different fire districts in the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Saint Florian Street Dance and Exhibition Competition won by the Talon Talon National High School.
“There is only one effective way to prevent fire, maging fire conscious tayo at hindi mangyayari ang sunog sa ating bahay (we must be fire conscious and fire won’t happen in our homes),” said Fire Chief Supt. Jerry Candido, BFP-9 director.
He advised the people to practice exit drills in their homes to ensure preparedness in case of a fire.
Mayor John Dalipe here, Police Regional Office-9 Deputy Director for Administration Police Col. Romeo Espero Jr., and Zamboanga City Jail Warden Jail Supt. Maria Ignacia Concha also attended the event.
