Families displaced, pets die as fires hit Muntinlupa, QC, and Manila
Fires hit several homes in Muntinlupa, Manila, and Quezon City, displacing families and killing 13 pet cats on Monday, March 3.
The fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa on March 3, affected about 50 families.
Based on the report by the Muntinlupa City Fire Station, the fire started at about 5 a.m. in Purok 11 in Sitio Masagana, a residential area beside the S&R warehouse club parking area and near the Alabang Town Center shopping mall.
The first alarm was raised at 5:32 a.m. and reached the third alarm at 6 a.m. before it was put out at 7:08 a.m.
Investigators estimated that the fire destroyed about P2 million worth of properties, affecting about 50 families or about 150 individuals.

Authorities are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
A total of 40 fire trucks, two rescue vehicles and five ambulances responded to the incident.
March is the Fire Prevention Month in the country.
Another fire razed a residential area on Daang Tubo, Barangay UP Campus in Quezon City, also on Monday, March 3.
According to Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was raised to the first alarm at 9:39 a.m. and escalated to the second alarm at 9:46 a.m.
The blaze was raised to the third alarm at 10:07 a.m.
No injuries have so far been reported.
At least 13 cats died in a fire that hit a house along Labores Street, Barangay 848, Pandacan, Manila.
The BFP said the fire started at 7:56 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, and was raised to the second alarm at 8:02 a.m.
Firefighters were able to control the flames an hour later.
Authorities reported that the house, made of light materials, was heavily damaged.
The affected families said they did not notice the smoke immediately, which caused them to panic and evacuate the house, leaving their 13 cats behind.
Arson investigators stated that unattended cooking was the suspected cause of the fire.
The BFP continues to advise residents to be cautious and vigilant to prevent similar incidents.
