'Amihan' gradually weakens, affecting only a portion of N. Luzon — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, March 2 said the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” is gradually weakening and is now only affecting parts of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said most parts of the country will experience fair weather. However, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may still occur.

He added that temperatures will gradually rise as the amihan is expected to end this month.

In the next 24 hours, the amihan will bring isolated light rains to the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley.

Meanwhile, the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific, will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Badrina also said that there are currently no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

He added that March is typically a month with fewer storms forming within the PAR.
