51% of Filipinos say Duterte should be held accountable for drug war killings — survey

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, commissioned by Stratbase Consultancy, revealed that majority of Filipinos believe former president Rodrigo Duterte should be held accountable for the killings related to illegal drugs during his administration.

The survey, conducted from Feb. 15 to 19, found that 51 percent of respondents agreed that Duterte should be held responsible for these killings. Of this group, 32 percent “strongly agree” and 19 percent “somewhat agree.”

Meanwhile, 25 percent of respondents disagreed with this view, with 16 percent strongly disagreeing and 9 percent somewhat disagreeing.

Another 14 percent were “undecided,” while 10 percent said they “didn’t know enough to give an opinion.”

The Stratbase-SWS February 2025 National Survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,800 registered voters across the country: 300 respondents from Metro Manila, 900 from Balance Luzon (or Luzon outside Metro Manila), 300 from the Visayas, and 300 from Mindanao.

The survey results were released on March 19, just days after Duterte’s arrest on March 11 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, following his return from Hong Kong.

The arrest was made pursuant to a warrant from the International Criminal Court, which is investigating allegations of “crimes against humanity” during his controversial “war on drugs.”
