3 weather systems to bring cloudy skies, rain showers — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, March 19 said three weather systems—the easterlies, shear line, and northeast monsoon—will be the country’s dominant weather systems in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA said the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Caraga and Davao Region.

Cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms will also affect Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Aklan, and Capiz due to the shear line, which forms from the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).

Cagayan Valley, Quezon, Aurora, Apayao, and the rest of Bicol Region will also experience cloudy and rainy conditions due to the amihan.

PAGASA warned of the potential for flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the easterlies, shear line, and amihan, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, fair weather conditions, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers, may affect the rest of the country, either because of the amihan or easterlies.

The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in areas vulnerable to such hazards.
