"It has come to my attention that a Viber account using my personal number has just been activated," Duterte said in a statement released to the media on Monday evening.
Rep. Duterte clarified that he did not make such a Viber account using the number and that the public should not engage with the fraudulent account as it is clearly made in an attempt to misrepresent himself.
The lawmaker urged the public to stay vigilant and avoid interacting with the fraudulent account, emphasizing that it was created to mislead people. He said they are already looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, in a separate post in his official Facebook page, Rep. Duterte thanked people around the world for their endless support to his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
"Thank you very much for your continued support of our father, President Rody Duterte. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. Take care always," Rep. Duterte said in a local dialect.
Rep. Duterte had earlier joined his siblings in petitioning the Supreme Court to order the government to facilitate the return of their father from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
