Police: No definite suspects yet in Slovakian's murder in Boracay

ILOILO CITY — Police do not have definite suspects yet in the killing of a Slovakian tourist at world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province amid reports that some individuals have been apprehended in connection with the crime.

POLICE say they have no suspects yet in the recent murder of a Slovakian tourist in Boracay.

“We don’t have anyone we can technically consider a suspect. It’s only persons of interest,” said Police Capt. Aubrey Ayon, public information officer of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO), on Tuesday, March 18.

APPO chief Police Col. Arnel Ramos is leading the probe on the death of 23-year-old Michaela Mickova through the newly created Special Investigation Task Group (SITG).

“We want to clarify what is coming out in the news and social media,” said Ayon, SITG spokesperson.

Ayon said that persons of interest refer to people who may know about the crime or have seen something.

“It does not mean they are already suspects,” Ayon said.

A man was arrested in Boracay a day after the crime but further investigation turned out he had nothing to do with the incident, said Police Lt. Col. Mar Joseph Ravelo, chief of the Malay Municipal Police Station.

Police did not say if the man who tried to sell illegal drugs and a gun is one of the persons of interest.
