ILOILO CITY — The PamilyaKo party-list is pushing for a law on domestic partnerships to protect rights and interests of non-traditional Filipino families.

“The Domestic Partnership Law will not only benefit live-in partners, but also other non-traditional families,” said Atty. Arnel Diaz, party-list nominee.

Diaz said the legislation will benefit Lovables — the live-in partners; the OFW families; victims of domestic violence; adoptive or orphan families; blended families; LGBTQ+ couples; and the elderly.

“We want to give them the same rights as legal couples,” said Diaz while campaining here.

Unlike other party-list, he said PamilyaKo wants non-traditional families to have legal recognition in terms of property management, inheritance rights, and even medical consent.

The next of kin has rights on what should be done in cases of emergencies and not the domestic partner, he said.

“It’s a reality we face in this country,” Diaz said.

Another key legislation PamilyaKo wants to push, he said, is the rights of children born out of wedlock or illegitimate children.

Under the law, illegitimate children are only entitled to half of their inheritance in comparison to legitimate children.

PamilyaKo also wants to legislate surrogacy — the fundamental rights of parents seeking surrogacy to have children, children born by surrogacy, and surrogate mothers.

PamilyaKo also urged full implementation of rights and privileges accorded to solo parents.
