The Manila City Government passed the 2024 Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) assessment by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), demonstrating its unwavering commitment to proper fiscal management, accountability, and good governance.
The DILG formally presented the recognition to Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, acknowledging Manila's accomplishment.
It called the achievement "a well-deserved recognition for transparency and excellence."
The DILG further emphasized that the recognition is a reflection of the city’s dedication to responsible financial stewardship, ensuring that public funds are managed efficiently for the benefit of every Manileño.
This marks the second consecutive year the city has received the accolade, with the same recognition awarded in 2023 for the city’s performance in the 2022 GFH assessment under the leadership of Mayor Lacuna-Pangan.
“Ito po ‘yung katunayan na ang nakaupo ay matino at mahusay sa paghawak ng ating pananalapi. Lahat ng documents ay maaring ma-access ng publiko (This is proof that the current administration handles the city's finances with integrity and competence. All financial documents are accessible to the public, ensuring transparency)," the DILG highlighted the significance of the achievement.
Meanwhile, Mayor Lacuna-Pangan expressed gratitude and emphasized that this accomplishment will inspire her to continue improving the city’s financial management practices.
She also extended her appreciation to her colleagues at City Hall, urging them to strive for excellence in their work.
The mayor also reiterated her commitment to handling public funds with the utmost care and efficiency.
“When it comes to the people’s money, we ensure that it is spent wisely and responsibly,” she stated.
The mayor also credited the dedication and hard work of all city officials and employees in maintaining the city government’s finances, despite inheriting a P17.8 billion debt from her predecessor, former Mayor Isko Moreno.
We would not have achieved these successes without the support of my colleagues in City Hall. This recognition serves as an inspiration for all of us to continue improving in our work every day).”
