The Toyota Tamaraw is already making an impact in the mobility sector with large, medium, and even small enterprises taking notice of the versatile truck. When it was launched earlier this year, the Tamaraw was initially offered in a long wheelbase (LWB) form powered by a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine.

Now Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is finally offering the much-awaited short wheelbase (SWB) model, powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, and with an even more accessible starting price of P757,000.

As the name suggests, the Tamaraw SWB is much shorter. The overall length may vary per variant, but the wheelbase remains constant at 2750 mm compared the LWB’s 3085 mm. However, this shorter wheelbase also gives it a tighter turning radius, better agility in tight spaces, and a more accessible price.

All SWB versions of the Tamaraw come with a 2.0L 1TR-FE four-cylinder gasoline engine that makes 139-PS and 183-Nm of torque. Power then transfers through a 5-speed manual gearbox towards the rear wheels. There is no automatic variant.

The Tamaraw SWB comes in three versions. The range starts with the 2.0L Dropside M/T (P757,000); a 2.0L Aluminum Cargo M/T (P808,000), and a Utility Van M/T (P1,010,000), which can serve as a cargo van or a people carrier.

The Tamaraw SWB is still quite capable. The Dropside can carry up to 1,025 kg of cargo, the Aluminum Cargo can carry up to 935 kg, while the Utility Van can carry 850 kg of payload.

This brings the Toyota Tamaraw lineup now up to seven models you can drive right off the showroom floor. This is not including the many special builds that can also be ordered through your dealer.
