Proactive, coordinated moves needed to curb dengue cases--solon

Ang Probinsyano Party-list Rep. Alfred delos Santos says government agencies should link up with local government units (LGUs) and barangays to initiate proactive measures against the spread of dengue fever.

This as Delos Santos called for immediate and coordinate actions to curb the outbreak and protect Filipino families from this life-threatening disease.

"Every Filipino has a role in this fight against dengue. By maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings and being vigilant about early symptoms, we can protect our families and communities from this disease," the solon said in a statement over the weekend.

He also asked for an increased funding support for research on dengue vaccines and innovative mosquito control methods.

"Dengue is preventable. With collective action, we can stop its spread through proper awareness, community cooperation, and timely intervention, ensuring a healthier and safer country for everyone,” Delos Santos said.

Ang Probinsyano Party-List says it reaffirms its commitment to public health and safety by supporting legislative measures and programs aimed at strengthening disease prevention, enhancing healthcare services, and safeguarding communities from health emergencies.

Recent data from the Department of Health (DOH) indicates a substantial increase in dengue cases. As of February 15, 2025, the health department reported 43,732 cases, marking a 56 percent rise compared to 27,995 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Some LGUs have also declared dengue outbreaks, most notably Quezon City which has reported a 300 percent increase in cases ballooning to a total of 3,608, and 12 related fatalities recorded from January to early March 2025.

"The rise in dengue cases is a serious public health concern that requires swift government response and community cooperation. We must act now to prevent further infections and save lives," Delos Santos stated.

The dengue crisis is also severe in certain provinces. Tarlac has seen a 144 percent increase in dengue cases in the first six weeks of 2025, totaling 792 cases with one fatality, mainly affecting the 10-19 age group.

Bulacan's 83 percent increase prompted the provincial government to establish "Dengue Fast Lanes" in hospitals – an initiative Delos Santos praised and called worthy of emulation by other LGUs.
