To promote fair and inclusive migration policies, the Philippines, through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), has called for the establishment of a unified global framework on social protection for migrant workers during a high-level international labor policymaking assembly.
DOLE Undersecretary Benedicto Ernesto R. Bitonio Jr., representing Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma, urged the International Labour Organization (ILO) to lead efforts in formulating standardized policies that ensure the portability of social security benefits—such as pensions, healthcare, and other entitlements—across borders.
The Philippines also advocated for stricter regulation of digital recruitment platforms to prevent unethical practices and supported ILO initiatives aimed at enhancing worker skills and job matching in response to evolving labor market demands.
As the lead agency for international labor engagements, DOLE reaffirmed the country’s commitment to promoting fair recruitment, labor rights, and comprehensive social protection through active participation in global policymaking bodies.
The Philippine delegation likewise stressed the importance of strengthening migrant worker resource centers and labor justice mechanisms in destination countries to uphold the welfare and equal treatment of Filipino workers abroad.
An active member of the Asia-Pacific Group (ASPAG), the Philippines continues to collaborate with regional partners in addressing migration-related challenges, with the ILO recognizing these efforts and pledging continued support for equitable labor migration.
With millions of Filipinos employed overseas, the Philippines remains firm in advancing global labor policies that protect, empower, and uplift migrant workers worldwide.
