West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) announced that it has increased its water production capacity in 2024, driven by sufficient supply from Angat Dam.
In a statement on Saturday, March 15, Maynilad said it last year recorded 315 million liters per day (MLD) of production capacity, which was able to supply its water service uninterrupted.
According to Maynilad, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) integrated proactive measures that maintained stable supply from Angat Dam, especially during the El Niño phenomenon.
Maynilad also cited key developments in 2024 that contributed to its production, including the expansion of Poblacion water treatment plant (WTP) in Muntinlupa City, which produced around 150 MLD.
During the year, Laguna Lake modular treatment plant (ModTP) also reinforced the output of Putatan WTP 1 and 2 by providing an additional 20 MLD. Additionally, the commissioning of Anabu ModTP also generated 12 MLD of potable water from Imus River.
Aside from infrastructure developments, Maynilad was able to recover more water and minimize system losses through intensified pipe replacement and leak repair projects.
Deep-well reactivation and construction was able to support the concessionaire’s water production, as it was able to tap additional groundwater sources to boost supply.
Randolph Estrellado, chief operating officer of Maynilad, assured that the company is well-prepared to meet up with the upcoming demand for the summer.
“Our continued investments in treatment facilities, deep wells, and network improvements ensure reliable water service for our customers, even during peak demand periods,” he said.
Earlier this week, the water concessionaire reported its capital expenditure (capex) projects to reach ₱30 billion this year, which is nearly 17 percent higher than last year’s investment.
Maynilad remains the largest private water concessionaire of MWSS, covering parts of the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon in Metro Manila, and areas in Cavite province.
