LOOK: Alyansa campaign rally in Tacloban draws 100,000; authorities provide proof

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte--The administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas drew a massive crowd of an estimated 100,000 during its campaign rally on Friday, March 15 at Plaza Libertad here.

The figure is the biggest recorded attendance for an Alyansa sortie next to the 80,000-strong rally in Pili, Camarines Sur last week.

Tingog Party-list, which holds its headquarters here in the city, shared drone photographs of the plaza during the event.

The official crowd estimate came from the Tacloban City’s Police Station. "In this regard, as per assessment of this Office, the said Grand Rally was attended by an estimated number of more or less 100,000 people," read a report signed by Police Colonel Noelito Getigan and addressed to Tingog Party-list.

“We thank our kababayan here in Tacloban and Leyte for the huge attendance in the Alyansa grand rally on Friday,” Congressman Jude Acidre, one of then two nominees of Tingog in the House of Representatives, said.

Acidre said the large attendance “reflects the wide support President BBM (Bongbong Marcos) and Speaker [Martin] Romualdez enjoy in Tacloban, Leyte and Eastern Visayas".

“After all, we consider the President as one of our own. His mother, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, and the Romualdezes are from Leyte,” he said.

Acidre said he has no doubt that the support the President enjoys in the region would translate into votes for Alyansa candidates.

“We are committed to a large majority of the votes in Leyte to the President’s candidates,” he added.

The other Tingog nominee in the House is Speaker Romualdez's wife, Congresswoman Yedda Marie Romualdez.
