Indie alternative pop singer-songwriter Amiel Sol has expressed his surprise at the unexpected success of his heartfelt song “Sa Bawat Sandali," which recently reached No. 1 on Spotify Philippines with over 31 million streams.
Amiel's other song, "Ikaw Lang Ang Patutunguhan," debuted on Billboard Philippines Hot 100 songs for March 1, 2025.
The mathematician reflected on how his songs, which touch on themes of love and the fleeting nature of time, managed to capture listeners' hearts and climb the local music charts.
"Unexpected yung pagpasok ng mga kanta ko sa music charts. Ang lahat ng ito bago sa akin. Hindi ako sanay na makita yung pangalan ko sa music charts kasi first time sa akin ito. But I'm thankful for this milestone. (It was unexpected for my songs to enter the music charts. All of this is new to me. I'm not used to seeing my name on the music charts because it's my first time. But I'm thankful for this milestone)," said Amiel during an interview recently at the Viva main office in Pasig City.
The powerful message of "Sa Bawat Sandali" is vividly showcased in its captivating music video, featuring the talented lead actors Ashtine Olviga and Andres Muhlach from Viva One's hit series "Ang Mutya ng Section E."
Their undeniable on-screen chemistry adds an enchanting layer to the narrative, elevating the song's emotional depth. This connection resonated with viewers, propelling the music video to trend at an impressive No. 3 on YouTube Music, where it garnered an astounding view count of over four million.
Amiel proudly shares that he hails from a lineage of talented musicians, each contributing to a wealthy family tradition filled with melodies and harmonies. From a young age, he was drawn to music, captivated by the enchanting sounds surrounding him.
"Bata pa ako mahilig na talaga ako sa music. And I come from a family of musicians. Yung parents ko nag-meet sila noong choir days nila sa church. Music na rin ang simula. I play the guitar. Noong high school, I joined Battle of the Bands with my friends. Noong college, nag-iba na kami ng mga school, tinuloy ko pa rin kahit on the side lang. Na-enjoy ko talaga ang music. (I've been really into music since I was young. And I come from a family of musicians. My parents met during their choir days at church. I play the guitar. In high school, I joined Battle of the Bands with my friends. In college, we went to different schools, but I continued even if it was just on the side. I enjoyed music)," he added.
Amiel, signed under Ivory Music, said he never expected his work to connect so well with the audience. This showed him that real artistry can touch people.
The UP graduate was expected to complete mathematics with honors, but he was disqualified from receiving that honor after dropping a unit. "Sayang nga eh pero okay lang. (It's okay). He was employed in the corporate world for a while, but decided to pursue music full-time.
"Just want to be consistent in what I am doing. Gusto ko lang kumanta sa lahat ng puwede kong kantahan now that I am a full-time artist. I want to be consistent as an artist kahit saan pa yan. (I want to sing everything I can now that I am a full-time artist. I want to be consistent as an artist no matter where that is)," Amiel said.
Amiel celebrated his birthday on Feb. 14, sharing this special day with several well-known Filipino celebrities: Kris Aquino, Heart Evangelista, and John Prats.
"Masaya rin ang mag-birthday on Valentine's Day. Pero ang hirap lumabas kasi puno ang mga restaurants. Either magbook ka ahead or lalabas na lang kami after Valentine's Day. (It's also fun to have a birthday on Valentine's Day. But it's hard to go out because the restaurants are full. Either book ahead or we'll just go out after Valentine's Day)," he said.
On his goal as a musician, Amiel answered: "Consistency talaga. Mula ng nag-graduate ako sa college at nagkaroon ng day job, na-lessen yung mga release ko (ng songs) in one year. Goal ko is four songs a year sana pero recently, two songs lang ako. Sana maging consistent ako sa mga release ko at sana magkaroon ako ng maraming gig. (Since I graduated from college and got a day job, my releases (of songs) in one year have decreased. My goal was to have four songs a year, but I've only had two recently. I hope I'll be consistent with my releases and hopefully I'll have many gigs.)"
