Citizen complaints received by Marina drop 26% in '24

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) said Friday, March 14, that it recorded a 26-percent decrease in the number of complaints filed through the 8888 Citizens Complaint Center (CCC) in 2024.

In a statement, the Marina acknowledged a report letter from the Office of the President (OP) which showed it recorded 171 complaints in 2024, lower than 231 in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Marina said it achieved a 100 percent resolution rate for all citizen complaints.

“Notably, 84.21% of these cases were resolved within the mandated 72-hour period set by the Office of the President,” it pointed out.

The agency said this reflects its ongoing efforts to streamline processes, enhance customer service, and more effectively address public concerns.

“Marina’s consistent performance in complaint resolution and the steady decline in complaints highlight its proactive approach to improving maritime services and ensuring stakeholder satisfaction,” the statement read.

Marina urged the public to report any issues related to its agency through the 8888 CCC hotline, which CCC serves as a platform for citizens to report inefficiencies, corruption, and service-related concerns.

The Marina is an attached agency to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), which is tasked with integrating the development, promotion, and regulation of the maritime industry in the country.
