TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte--Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial bet Makati Mayor Abby Binay has urged voters to look beyond the political affiliations of candidates and consider what they can "bring to the table".

Binay made this appeal when asked in press conference here about the possible political repercussions of the arrest and detention of former president Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the charge of crimes against humanity.

“Go beyond whether we are pro-Marcos or pro-Duterte…What do we stand for? What could we bring to the table? Ano ba ang tinatayuan namin? Hindi po pwedeng, ‘Ah kasi nakadikit ka dito, ayaw ko sa iyo,’” she said.

(What do we stand for? You shouldn't reject us just for the reason that we're affiliated with someone you don't like.)

“At the end of the day, ang gusto po natin, sabi ko nga sa inyo, ano ba ang pwede naming ibigay sa mga kababayan natin (what we want to happen, like what Ive told you, is to give focus on what we can offer to our countrymen),” she added.

As for the ICC, Binay said she believes the United Nations (UN-backed court will be fair and impartial in handling the case of the 79-year-old Duterte.

“I think we have to trust the ICC. We have to trust the process,” she said.

Binay went on to ask Filipinos to give the ICC a chance to do its duty.

"Sana bigyan natin ng pagkakataon iyong ICC. Alam naman natin na magiging patas. Hindi naman sinasabi na guilty siya. Kaya nga may proseso. Kaya ng may trial. Bigyan natin iyon ng pagkakataon,” she further said.

(Let's give the ICC a chance. We know that it's going to be fair. Nobody is saying he's guilty. That's why there's a process. That's why there's a trial. Let's give that a chance.)
