Bacolod City mayor orders water rationing

BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Albee Benitez has ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the City Engineer’s Office to start rationing water to affected barangays here this weekend.

Benitez said that the city’s normal water supply is 84 million liters per day but it dropped to 79 MLD on March 11.

“As the summer months approach, we expect the water table to go down a bit,” he said.

Benitez has asked the DRRMO to reactivate trucks and tanks to deliver water to barangays.

The Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa)-PrimeWater reported reduced water delivery from its bulk suppliers and illegal connections resulting in non-revenue water losses.

To alleviate the situation, Baciwa-PrimeWater is working on several projects, including the Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) Injection Point 2 and the Matab-ang Treatment Plant, to enhance water distribution across the northern and southern parts of this city.

Benitez urged to conserve water and assured that measures are being taken to ensure supply reaches those in need.
