I'm doing fine, says FPRRD in video message to Filipinos

DAVAO CITY – Former President Rodrigo Duterte released a video message on Thursday, March 13, assuring Filipinos that he is doing fine.

“Okay lang ako (I am doing fine)...Do not worry,” Duterte said.

Duterte said that he is about to land in Rotterdam, Netherlands, after a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He said it was a long trip from the Philippines.

The former Chief Executive reiterated his unwavering support for the military and other law enforcement personnel.

“Ang sinabi ko naman sa police at military magtrabaho kayo at ako ang managot. Ito na (I told the police and the military to do their job, and I will take full responsibility. This is it),” he said, referring to the controversial war on drugs under his leadership which as an issue under ICC investigation.

Duterte said that he takes full responsibility for their actions in the past. “I told you, I will protect you, and I will… I will take the responsibility,” Duterte said.

He acknowledged the possibility of prolonged legal proceedings and remains resolute in his commitment to serve the country.

“This will be a long legal proceeding, and I say to you I will continue to serve my country. If this is my destiny, so be it. Thank you,” Duterte said.

Duterte’s transfer to The Hague sets the stage for his first appearance before the judges who authorized his arrest warrant, signaling the start of what could be lengthy legal proceedings.

The investigation, centered on accusations of extrajudicial killings and crimes against humanity, continues to overshadow Duterte’s presidency.

The public is closely watching legal proceedings in The Hague, with the ICC case expected to draw significant international attention.

The Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands announced on its official Facebook page that they have provided consular support to Duterte when he arrived at Rotterdam Airport.

To keep him comfortable during the winter, the embassy gave him winter clothes, fresh clothes, and care packages, which were shared with his delegation and the plane’s crew.

An ICC nurse coordinated with Duterte’s nurse about his health and an ICC doctor is set to give him a medical checkup at the ICC Detention Center in Rotterdam.

The embassy secured visas for Duterte’s aides, including his nurse, to enable them to rest before returning home.

Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, serving as Duterte’s legal counsel, received a 15-day visa to enable him to visit him at the detention center.

The embassy emphasized its dedication to ensuring Duterte’s well-being during his stay in the Netherlands.
