Bacolod starts construction of P1-B recycling complex

BACOLOD CITY – The city government started the construction of the P1-billion Recovery and Recycling Complex and Ecopark in Barangay Felisa here on Wednesday, March 12.

The 33-hectare facility developed in partnership with IPM Construction and Development Corp. is adjacent to the sanitary landfill.

Phase 1 will include the construction and site development of the mechanized Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), along with the installation of essential facilities and equipment, as well as electrical and lighting systems.

The MRF will feature a conveyor belt sorting line, integrated waste solutions, baling of recyclables, tree trimming, yard waste recycling, and windrow composting.

Mayor Albee Benitez said that the entire complex that has multiple components for a holistic waste management system is projected to cost over P1 billion. He added that the three-phase project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Benitez said the facility will transform Bacolod into an environmental powerhouse. “This will once again put Bacolod on the map across the entire country as we embark on a pioneering effort,” he said.

The city has invested P160 million for the construction of the first phase.

The MRF is designed to process a wide range of recyclable materials, including plastics, biodegradables, glass, paper, and metal.
