1 hurt in landmark EDSA building takeover

A security guard was hurt after armed men stormed into a building in San Juan City early Thursday morning, March. 13, the San Juan City Police said.

Based on the initial information, the men took over the V.V. Soliven Building at around 3 a.m. and placed it under lockdown, preventing the building employees from entering its premises.

An alleged "intra-corporate dispute,” which generally involves the rights and obligations of the stockholders or members of the corporation, was said to be the reason for the takeover.

During the attack, one of the building's security guards was allegedly hit on the head by the butt of a gun brought by one of the attackers. He was immediately given first aid.

The San Juan City Police, together with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers, were immediately deployed to the area to control the standoff between the attackers and the building's employees who were trying to force their way inside.

According to the police, the situation inside the building became under control at 11 a.m. after arresting the individuals who locked the building.

San Juan City Police chief Col. Deodennies Marmol said officers are still deployed in the area as further investigation on the incident is still ongoing.
