House inspection of impeachment prosecutors' working area in Senate postponed
The scheduled ocular inspection of the House Secretary General of the impeachment prosecutors’ working area in the Senate supposedly today has been postponed.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed this on Wednesday, March 12.
“Nope. May scheduled meeting daw sila after lunch so alanganin sa oras (No. They said they have a scheduled meeting after lunch so they might not have the time),” Bantug said.
Last week, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco sent a letter to Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero requesting that a room for the House Prosecution Panel and Secretariat Support Group be provided for them for the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez also sent a letter to Escudero saying that the House of Representatives is vouching that the “proceedings will be conducted with fairness, impartiality and strict adherence to the provisions of the Constitution.”
The vice president was impeached last February 5, with more than 200 lawmakers signing the complaint.
The Articles of Impeachment were then transmitted to the Senate the same day, but the Upper Chamber adjourned without tackling the case.
