Former senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson has reminded the Marcos government of its obligation to assist former president Rodrigo Duterte with his predicament before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
"More than being a former president of our country, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte is a Filipino who will face trial before an international court," Lacson said in a short statement Wednesday, March 12.
"Our government must not lose sight of its obligation, as a matter of policy, to extend support to ALL Filipinos, as we consistently do, even to those already convicted and facing executions beyond our jurisdiction," he noted.
Lacson is eyeing a Senate seat in upcoming May 12 polls under the administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas ticket.
President Marcos has been Alyansa’s main endorser in the ongoing campaign period.
On Tuesday, March 11, the International Police (Interpol) arrested Duterte in connection with his crimes against humanity charge before the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague in the Netherlands.
