'Danger' level heat index expected in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on March 12 – PAGASA

Easterlies affecting the eastern section of the Philippines

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that Dagupan City in Pangasinan will experience a “danger level” heat index on Wednesday, March 12.

Based on PAGASA's two-day forecast as of 5 p.m. on March 11, Pangasinan is expected to record the highest heat index, reaching 44 to 45 degrees Celsius (°C) on March 12 and 13, respectively.

According to PAGASA, the heat index refers to the apparent temperature or how hot it feels due to the combined effects of actual air temperature and humidity.

PAGASA also said that “extreme caution” is advised in Metro Manila and most parts of the country, where the heat index is expected to range between 31 and 41°C.

Meanwhile, PAGASA noted that easterlies are currently affecting the eastern section of the country.

The easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Eastern Samar.

In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, according to PAGASA.

In Batanes, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will cause cloudy skies with light rains.

PAGASA also warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.
