VP Sara should be 'next' after Digong's arrest, says militant party-list

ACT Teachers Party-list wants Vice President Sara Duterte to be "next".

This was former ACT Teachers Party-list congressman Antonio Tinio's wish on Tuesday afternoon, March 11 following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, which stemmed from a charge of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Vice President Duterte is the eldest daughter of the 79-year-old former Philippine leader, who is infamous for his bloody war on drugs that allegedly claimed an estimated 30,000 lives.

"We hope that Vice President Sara Duterte would be next," said Tinio, a candidate for congressman in the upcoming May 2025 polls.

"The wheels of justice must continue to turn, and all those complicit in the atrocities committed during Duterte's administration must be held accountable for their actions," he said.

ACT Teachers Party-list said that former president Duterte sends a clear message that justice will prevail and that those who have committed grave human rights violations will be held accountable for their actions.

Vice President Duterte is handling problems of her own, having been impeached by the House of Representatives last Feb. 5. She is awaiting her impeachment trial at the Senate.

Congresswoman France Castro, the incumbent ACT Teachers Party-list representative, said that the elder Duterte's arrest "marks a concrete step towards accountability and justice for the countless victims of his bloody regime". 

"This should serve as a reminder that those responsible for human rights abuses must face the consequences of their actions", she said.
