Valerie Tan scores hosting nomination from Star Awards for TV 2025

In the cutthroat media industry, Valerie Tan has already carved her niche in events and TV.

Val, as she is fondly called, is one of the most in-demand event hosts. She gives life to all types of events, from corporate to brand activations. Although she may not have pursued a career aligned with her bachelor's degree in communications technology management obtained from Ateneo de Manila University, she is fulfilled having established her career as a TV and Event host.

“My job has many perks - flexibility of time, working and collaborating with creative people, and it can also be glamorous, but I've stuck with it for so long and will continue to do so for one reason - I love what I do!,” says Val. “The joy is in the act itself and I'm grateful I get the opportunity to do this often.”

Val takes her job seriously, giving her 101 percent, the best in hosting. Her TV show “I Heart Ph” could attest to her passion and dedication to her craft. No wonder she got nods from the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) as she was cited for nomination in the Best Lifestyle and Travel Show Host category in this year’s Star Awards for TV. This is her first solo nomination from the award giving body having been nominated before in PMPC Star Awards for TV as Best Morning Show Host years back. She was part of an ensemble of hosts for GMA News TV's Kape at Balita.

“This current nomination is different because it's just me representing our show, “I Heart PH”. Being nominated alone is something to be proud of. Iba ang ‘kilig’, iba yung feeling.”

Val is pitted against seasoned hosts in the said category - Drew Arellano (Biyahe ni Drew/ GMA 7), JR Royol (Farm to Table/ GMA 7), Marie Lozano (The Lifestyle Lab/Bilyonaryo News Channel), Matthew Pirante Perez (ResTouRant/ IBC 13), and Niña Corpuz (Health@Home/ PTV 4).

She is doubly grateful, as “I Heart Ph,” on a season break, is also nominated as Best Lifestyle and Travel Show. “It's a validation for all the hard work we've put in, and serves as fuel for us to work harder in our next seasons.”

It may be recalled that Val won the talent reality search "May Trabaho Ka," which aired on GMA Network's channel QTV (now GTV), paving the way for her TV hosting. She takes pride in her hosting stint for GMA’s public affairs programs, claiming it as her biggest break for TV.

“Being able to work alongside our country's finest journalists and personalities meant I had to level up and always give a performance that is no less than excellent. And this honed me and opened many doors, including hosting live events.”

Since 2018, Val has remained the face of “I Heart Ph,” produced by TV8 Media. She is excited about what the show offers when it resumes airing on the GMA network’s news channel, GTV, for its new season this May.
